So we have these elections for judges in Michigan. No one knows much about them, and even people who work the legal system can't keep them straight. Bradfield's problems all seem to revolve around parking his car.

State: Suspend judge for 1 year

Mich. Supreme Court will decide punishment for Detroit jurist's many angry outbursts.

A Detroit district court judge with a long history of angry outbursts should be suspended a year without pay and receive more counseling before returning to the bench, the state's Judicial Tenure Commission recommended Wednesday.

Judge David Martin Bradfield's misconduct record stretches back a decade and warrants the unusually harsh recommended punishment, the commission noted. The Michigan Supreme Court ultimately will decide Bradfield's punishment for misconduct this year and in 2002.

On April 5, in a dispute that began over a parking space outside the courthouse, Bradfield repeatedly poked and berated Deputy Mayor Anthony Adams, husband of Judge Deborah Ross Adams, who is one of Bradfield's colleagues.

Adams was parked in a space reserved for judges but had permission from Atkins to use the space. ...

The other incident happened at the parking garage near the Gem Theater across from the courthouse in October 2002. According to the commission, Bradfield became irate at a parking attendant who told him there were no free spaces reserved for judges. Bradfield tossed a piece of paper to the ground and sped away from the garage, squealing his tires, the commission found...

In 1995, he was publicly censured after he struck with a car a security guard at Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn after a dispute with a motorist about a parking space.
