Pistons This Year and Last

The Dodger gives homage to http://www.82games.com/index.htm and hopes they will excuse copying two tables (something firefox will do and IE will not.).

Have the Pistons lost their touch on defense is the question? This would certainly be key in playoffs, where all teams play defense as best they can.

The Dodger is not clear on whether the full year 2004-5 stats include the playoffs. Certainly at this time last year the Pistons were playing way below where they are this year, with the same first 6, but this year substituting Arroyo for Lindsay Hunter as the first guard off the bench. Both more defense later in year, and adding Lindsay should add defense. The second unit to date has been giving up a lot. BrooklynDodger will comment on second unit at a later time.

For all the talk about up tempo, this year and last year the Pistons were at 88 possessions a game. By contrast, Phoenix is 96, San Antonio 91 and Dallas 90.

Comparing years, the Pistons are getting a higher eFG, but also giving a higher one, they are getting fewer rebounds and giving more. They are giving fewer turnovers and getting more.

This year San Antonio is getting 97.8 (less than Pistons) and giving 90.7 a game (also less than Pistons, but the margin is less than Pistons). They are getting .513 eFG (better) and giving .444 eFg (better). However, they are giving more turnovers and getting fewer.
