What have they done to my map?

BrooklynDodger hates the red state-blue state metaphor. First, the Dodger is for sure a red, a red diaper baby [or at least teenager] who never changed colors. The so-called red states are really the gray states of the Confederacy, for those states which were around then. Or, chosing the Russian civil war, the white states.
[Based on that, the Dodger will take Blue states as connected to something historical.]
