As a new gout sufferer, I was told by a gout survivor that there are two responses to an attack. Fellow victims are empathetic and sympathetic, while others laugh. Gout images a disease of guilty victims, as opposed to innocent victims.

The point of this post is that the Times today revealed that Phil Jackson suffers from gout. Gout were caused by attitude, or overweight, or apparent lack of self control, he wouldn't be your first pick.
