MSU Aims To Reduce Punishment For Public Urination

Current Law Puts Third-Time Offenders On Sex Offenders List

Officials at Michigan State University are working to reduce the punishment against people convicted of urinating in public. Third-time offenders under the current law would qualify to be named on the state's sex offender registry, according to the paper.

MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor told the paper that part of the urination problem stems from tailgating at Saturday football games.
Student Assembly Chairman Andrew Schepers has said the problem may be that there are too few portable toilets in the area, the paper reported. Schepers added that when more toilets were added in high-traffic areas, the number of public urination incidents decreased.
